Mozambique
Since 2017, the insurgency in Cabo Delgado has displaced more than one million people and led to the deaths of over 6,000 people.
Surveys show that around 45% of local respondents identify natural gas and ruby extraction as contributing drivers of conflict, linked to displacement, loss of livelihoods, and land allocation.

Our work
The Peace Clubs Initiative
The Peace Clubs initiative is an interfaith, multi-level peacebuilding programme jointly chaired by:
- Bishop Ernesto Manuel, Anglican Bishop of Nampula
- Sheikh Abdul Magid Antonio, Chair of the local Islamic Council
with support from the United Nations.
Its aims include trauma healing, community resilience, preventing recruitment into extremist groups, and supporting displaced families.
How It Works
- Project level: Strengthening Peace Clubs in affected areas and engaging TotalEnergies and other companies in peace-supportive practices.
- National level: Providing a dialogue platform for ongoing conversation between corporate stakeholders and faith leaders.
- International level: Convening global companies, investors, and faith leaders to assess operations and promote country-wide peacebuilding measures.
